Gerard Basset, French-born British sommelier, Died at 61

Gerard Francis Claude Basset was born on March 7, 1957 and died on January 16, 2019.

Basset was the proprietor of Hotel TerraVina, a New Forest Hotel close Southampton in Hampshire, United Kingdom.

Basset was at present the main individual on the planet to hold the joined titles of Master of Wine, Master Sommelier, Wine MBA, OIV MSc in Wine Management and World's Best Sommelier.

Basset went to the Lycée Albert Camus in Firminy, France. In the wake of preparing in Lyon, he moved to England to begin his profession as a sommelier, rapidly getting to be Head Sommelier at Chewton Glen, the Michelin-featured inn in Hampshire.

John J. McKetta, American chemical engineer, Died at 103


John J. McKetta Jr. was born on October 17, 1915, in Wyano, Pennsylvania and died on January 15, 2019.

He was an American chemical engineer.

He was known for his research on more efficient ways to create energy and the thermodynamic properties of hydrocarbons.

McKetta was elected to the National Academy of Engineering and, in 2009, was selected by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers as one of the "50 Chemical Engineers of the Foundation Age.

McKetta turned 100 in October 2015. John J. McKetta passed away at 103 years old.

Pinaki Thakur, Bengali poet, Died at 59

Pinaki Thakur was born on April 21, 1959 and died on January 3, 2019.

He was a Bengali poet Pinaki Thakur studied Engineering but passionate in Bengali poetry from student life and wrote poems in various little magazines.

Thakur's poetry was first published in Ushinar magazine in 1974.

Thakur's poetry was published in Desh magazine, in 1979.

Thakur became popular in Bengali literary field after publishing his first book Ekdin Ashoriri.

He was conferred the Ananda Puraskar in 2012 for his book Chumbaner Kkhato. Thakur was also given by Paschimbanga Bangla Akademi Puraskar and Krittibas Purashkar.

He was born at Bansberia, Hooghly district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Thakur was suffering in Cerebral Malaria since December 2018 and died on 3 January 2019 in SSKM Hospital, Kolkata.

Pinaki Thakur passed away at 59 years old.

Derek Piggott, British glider pilot and flight instructor, Died at 96

Alan Derek Piggott MBE was born on December 27, 1922, and died on January 6, 2019.

He was one of Britain's popular glider pilots and instructors.

Derek Piggott punched in over 5,000 hours on over 153 types of powered aircraft and over 5,000 hours on over 184 types of glider.

Piggott was given an awars for his work on the instruction and safety of glider pilots. Derek Piggot became the first person to make an officially authenticated take-off and flight in a man-powered aircraft in 1961.

Piggot was also a stunt pilot in several feature films.

He invented the "Piggott-Hook", which he designed to prevent air brakes opening on a launch.

Today, this system is installed in all new gliders built by DG Flugzeugbau.

Derek Piggot passed away at 96 yeasrs old.
