Ian George, Australian Anglican prelate, Died at 84

Ian Gordon Combe George was born on August 13, 1934, and died on January 29, 2019.

He was the third Archbishop of Adelaide and Metropolitan of South Australia from 1991 to 2004.

He was taught at St Peter's College, Adelaide and the University of Adelaide After a prior vocation as a legal counselor, he was appointed a minister in 1964.

He held curacies at St Thomas's, Mamaroneck and St David's, Burnside; and was then minister in control at St Barbara's, Woomera.

After this, he was a cleric and teacher in history at the University of Western Australia.

He was Dean of Brisbane from 1973 to 1981 when he moved toward becoming Archdeacon of Canberra.

In 1989, George was named an associate diocesan of the bishopric and in 1991 was meant Adelaide.

He was appointed five ladies to the organization on 5 December 1992 at St Peter's Cathedral in Adelaide.

In 2004, he surrendered from the job of ecclesiastical overseer due to misusing of sex misuse claims.

He was hitched to Barbara George He relocated to Melbourne following his acquiescence as Archbishop of Adelaide.

He endured a stroke in late 2018, and another in mid 2019.

Ian George passed away at 84 years old.

Fernando Sebastián Aguilar, Spanish Roman Catholic cardinal, Died at 89

Fernando Sebastián Aguilar was born on December 14, 1929, in Calatayud, Province of Zaragoza and died on January 24, 2019.

He was a Spanish cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and the Archbishop Emeritus of Pamplona y Tudela.

Pope Francis ordained  him a cardinal in a consistory of February 22, 2014.

Fernando Sebastián Aguilar passsed away at 89 years old in Málaga, having suffered a severe stroke just a couple of days prior.

Evloghios, German-born Italian Orthodox bishop, Died at 83

Evloghios (Hessler) was born on February 21, 1935, in Dortmund, Province of Westphalia, Germany, and died on January 21, 2019.

He was Archbishop of Milan and Longobardia, and Orthodox Metropolitan of Aquileia and Western Europe (Italian: Evloghios, Arcivescovo di Milano e Longobardia, Metropolitan Ortodosso di Aquileia e del’Europa Occidentale; secular name Klaus Augustin Hessler) and Primate of the Holy Synod of Milan.

It was reported that he was hospitalized in serious condition, on January 19, 2019.

Evloghios passed away at 83 years old.

Roberto Reinaldo Cáceres González, Argentinian-born Uruguayan Roman Catholic prelate, Died at 97

Roberto Reinaldo Cáceres González was born on April 16, 1921 and died on January 13, 2019.

He was a Uruguayan Prelate of Roman Catholic Church.

He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and was ordained a priest on July 15, 1945.

He was appointed bishop of The Diocese of Melo on January 2, 1962 and consecrated on March 19, 1962.

He retired from the Melo Diocese on April 23, 1996.

Roberto Reinaldo Cáceres González passed away at 97 years old.

Gonzalo Ramiro del Castillo Crespo, Bolivian Roman Catholic prelate, Died at 82

Gonzalo Ramiro de Jesús María del Castillo Crespo was born on September 20, 1936, in Bolivia and died on January 14, 2019.

He was a Bolivian Roman Catholic bishop.

He was ordained to the priesthood in 1964.

Castillo Crespo served as titular bishop of Themisonium and as auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of La Paz, Bolivia, from 1983 to 2000 and as bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Bolivia from 2000 to 2012.

Gonzalo Ramiro del Castillo Crespo passed away at 82 years old.

Bo Hi Pak, South Korean member of the Unification Church, Died at 88

Bo Hi Pak was born on August 18, 1930 and died on January 12, 2019, in Korea.

 
He was a prominent member of the Unification Church. 

Pak was a major leader in the church movement, during the 1970s and 1980s, leading projects such as newspapers (notably the Washington Times), schools, performing arts projects, political projects such as the anti-communist organization CAUSA International, and was president of the Unification Church International 1977 to 1991. 

Bo Hi Pak was also the president of Little Angels Children's Folk Ballet of Korea.
 
On July 20, 2004 the Eastern Seoul District Prosecutor sent him to prisoned Dr. Pak and charged him with financial fraud because he was unable to repay his debts to Korean businessmen.

Bo Hi Pak passed away at 88 years old.

Charles Soreng, Indian Roman Catholic prelate, Died at 84

Charles Soreng was born on August 18, 1934 and died on  January 11, 2019.

 
He was an Indian Roman Catholic bishop.
 
He was born in India and was ordained to the priesthood in 1969.
 
Soreng was appointed the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Daltonganj, India from 1989 to 1995 and as bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hazaribag, India, from 1995 to 2012.

Charles Soreng passed away at 84 years old.

Jaime Rosenthal, Honduras businessman and politician, Died at 82

Christian Conrad Blouin was born in November 1941, in Canada and died on January 12, 2019.

He was a Papua New Guinean Roman Catholic bishop.

He was ordained to the priesthood during 1969. Blouin served as bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lae, Papua New Guinea, from 2007 to 2018.

Christian Conrad Blouin passed away at 77 years old.

John L. Said, American Episcopal bishop, Died at 86

John Lewis Said was born in 1932 and died on January 5, 2019. 

He was appointed as the Bishop Suffragan in the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida (1995–2003) and Assistant Bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida (2003 to 2018).

Following his  ordination to the diaconate and priesthood in the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, Said was consecrated to the episcopate on February 25, 1995. 

John L. Said was a graduate of Yale Divinity School.

John L. Said passed away at 86 years old.

Óscar González-Quevedo, Spanish-born Brazilian Jesuit priest and parapsychologist, Died at 88


Father Óscar González-Quevedo Bruzón was born on December 15, 1930, in Madrid and died on January 9, 2019.

He was a Spanish-born Brazilian Jesuit priest.


González-Quevedo was an investigator in the field of parapsychology. He came from a deep Catholic family.

González-Quevedo  was the Founder and Director of the Latin American Center of Parapsychology, located in São Paulo, Brazil, where he worked on a daily basis, except while traveling domestically or throughout the world, teaching and conducting all sort of conferences and workshops on parapsychology. 

He read Latin, Greek, Hebrew, English, French and Italian, besides being fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

Óscar González-Quevedo passed away  88 years old.

Armando Bortolaso, Italian-born Syrian Roman Catholic prelate, Died at 92

Armando Bortolaso was born on August 17, 1926 in Italy and died on January 8, 2019.

He was an Italian Roman catholic titular bishop.

Bortolaso was ordained to the priesthood in 1953.

Bortolaso served as titular bishop of Rapahamae and was bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Aleppo, Syria, fom 1992 to 2002.

Bortolaso passed away at 92 years old.

José Belvino do Nascimento, Brazilian Roman Catholic prelate, Died at 86

José Belvino do Nascimento was born on December 29, 1932 and died on January 8, 2019.

He was a Brazilian Roman Catholic bishop.

He was born in Brazil and was ordained to the priesthood during 1956.

Belvino do Nascimento was appointed as bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Itumbiara, Brazil, from 1981 to 1987.

He then served as coadjutor bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Patos de Minas, Brazil, from 1987 to 1989.

Then he served as bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Divinópolis , Brazil, from 1989 to 2009.

Joseph Lawson Howze, American Roman Catholic prelate, Died at 95

Joseph Lawson E. Howze was born on August 30, 1923, in Daphne, Alabama and died on January 9, 2019.

He was an African-American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church.

Howze was appointed as the first Bishop of Biloxi from 1977 to 2001.

Following his expression an interest in the Priesthood, he was accepted to study for the priesthood at Christ the King Seminary at St. Bonaventure University in New York (receiving his Doctor of Divinity in 1959), and was ordained for the Diocese of Raleigh, North Carolina, on May 7, 1959.

Howze served as a pastor in Asheville.

He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Natchez-Jackson, Mississippi, and Titular Bishop of Maxita by Pope Paul VI, on November 8, 1972.

Joseph Lawson Howze pased away at 95 years old.

Giorgio Zur, German Roman Catholic prelate, Died at 88

Giorgio Zur was born on February 15, 1930 and died on January 8, 2019.

He was a Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See.

He was the son of a master tailor.

Giorgio Zur was a student in Rome at the Gregorian University, where he obtained a licentiate in philosophy and theology and a doctorate in canon law.

He was ordained to the priesthood, on October 10, 1955.

When he completed his pastoral work as a chaplain in the Archdiocese of Bamberg, he attended in 1961-62 the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, later becoming its director from 1999 to 2000.

Over the next few years, zur was in the diplomatic service of the Holy See at the Apostolic Nunciature to India, Mexico, Burundi and Uganda.

Giorgio Zur passed away at 88 years old.

Sergio Otoniel Contreras Navia, Chilean Roman Catholic prelate, Died at 92

Sergio Otoniel Contreras Navia was born on April 27, 1926, and died on January 5, 2019.

He was a Chilean Roman Catholic bishop.

He was born in Chile.

In 1957 Contreras Navia was ordained to the priesthood.

Contreras Navia served as bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Carlos de Ancud, Chile, from 1966 to 1974 and as auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Concepción, Chile.

Sergio Otoniel Contreras Navia was a bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Temuco, Chile from 1977 to 2001.

 Contreras Navia passed away at 92 years old.

Samuel Rayan, Indian theologian, Died at 98

Samuel Rayan was born on July 23, 1920, in Kollam District, Kerala and died on January 2, 2019.

He was an Indian Roman Catholic theologian.

He was known as being a proponent of a form of liberation theology.

Samuel Rayan came from a family of eight children (2 girls and 6 boys).

During 1939 Rayan entered Jesuit order. Samuel Rayan was ordained priest on 24 March 1955.

Rayan devoted many years to the study of Malayalam literature. He mastered Sanskrit and is well read in Indian religions and philosophy.

During 1991, a Festschrift was published in his honor.

Bread and breath: essays in honour of Samuel Rayan, S.J., on the occasion of his seventieth birth anniversary included contributions by Gustavo Gutiérrez, George Soares-Prabhu, and Jon Sobrino.

 Samuel Rayan passed away at 98 years old in Nirmala Hospital, Kozhikode in Kerala where he was undergoing old age ailments.

Michael Yeung, Chinese Roman Catholic prelate, Died at 73


Michael Yeung Ming-Cheung was born on December 1, 1945, in Shanghai and died on January 3, 2019.

He was the 8th Roman Catholic Bishop of Hong Kong. Yeung was consecrated on August 30, 2014.

Yeung finishes his primary and secondary schooling and began working for an import-export company.

During 1972 he entered the major seminary and studied theology and philosophy, he was 26 years old.

Michael Yeung was ordained a priest for the diocese of Hong Kong on 10 June 1978.

Following his ordination, Yeung took a variety of pastoral and administrative roles.

Michael Yeung passed away at 73 years old, at Canossa Hospital, due to liver failure brought on by cirrhosis.

Cameron M. Alexander, American Baptist minister, Died at 86

Cameron M. Alexander was born on February 12, 1932, and died on December 30, 2018.

He was an American Baptist minister.

Alexander led 12,000-member Antioch Baptist Church North and community leader in the English Avenue neighborhood (also known as part of "The Bluff") in Atlanta.

Kennedy Street in English Avenue was renamed Cameron M. Alexander Blvd in October 2010, in his honor.

Cameron passed away at 86 years old.

Elazar Mordechai Koenig, Israeli Orthodox rabbi, Died at 73

Elazar Mordechai Koenig was born in 1945, in Jerusalem and died on December 31, 2018.

He was an Orthodox Jewish rabbi and the spiritual leader of the Breslov Hasidic community in Safed, Israel.

He was born to Rabbi Gedaliah Aharon Koenig and his wife Esther Yehudit Koenig.

Koenig's father was a leading disciple of Breslov elder Rabbi Abraham Sternhartz, who immigrated to Jerusalem from Uman, Ukraine in 1936.

He was an alumnus of the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem.

Koenig studied kabbalah with his father as well as with several leading Sephardic masters, including Rabbi Mordechai Sharabi.

Elazar Mordechai Koenig passed away at 73 years old.
