Jimmy Rayl, American basketball player, Died at 77

James R. Rayl was born on June 21, 1941, in Kokomo, Indiana and died on January 20, 2019.

He was an American professional basketball player in the ABA.

Rayl stood at 6'2" and 175 lb guard. He was selected by the Cincinnati Royals in the third round and 23rd pick of the 1963 NBA draft.

Later, Rayl signed and played two seasons for the Indiana Pacers.

In his career, his average of 11.1 ppg.

Jimmy Rayl passed away 77 years.

Pedro Manfredini, Argentine footballer, Died at 83

Pedro Waldemar Manfredini was born on September 7, 1935 and died on January 21, 2019. He was an Argentine professional footballer, who played as a forward.

Pedro began his career in Argentine club Racing Club de Avellaneda in 1957, winning the 1958 Argentine Primera División, and finishing the season as the joint-fourth highest goalscorer, and as his club's top scorer, with 19 goals.

After two seasons in Argentina, Pedro subsequently moved to Italian Serie A side A.S. Roma in 1959, where he played for seven seasons.

Pedro won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup with the club in 1961 (the predecessor to the UEFA Cup), finishing as the top scorer of the tournament, with 12 goals.

During the 1962 to 1963 season, he was the Serie A top scorer (tied with Harald Nielsen with 19 goals), and he once again finished as the top scorer of the 1962 to 1963, Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, scoring 6 goals throughout the tournament, as Roma reached the semi-finals, losing out to the eventual champions Valencia.

Pedro also won the Coppa Italia with Roma during the 1963 to 1964 season, finishing the tournament as top scorer yet again, with 4 goals. In total, he played 130 games for A.S. Roma and scored 76 times.

He later spent a season with Brescia and then Venezia before retiring from his International career.

Pedro was capped three times for Argentina, scoring two goals.

He took part in the first ever edition of the Copa América in 1959, on home soil, making his debut in the competition, and appearing three times.

Pedro scored two goals in a 6–1 win against Chile in the opening match of the tournament, which was also his international debut, helping his country to lift the South American Championship title.

Pedro Waldemar Manfredini passed away at the age of 83 years old.

Mauro Cichero, Italian-born Venezuelan footballer, Died at 67

Mauro Cichero was born on October 16, 1951, and January 21, 2018.

He was a Venezuelan footballer.

Cichero took part in the men's tournament at the 1980 Summer Olympics.

Cichero passed away at 67 years old.

Giuseppe Minardi, Italian racing cyclist, Died at 90

Giuseppe Minardi was born on March 18, 1928 and died on January 21, 2019.

He was an Italian former racing cyclist.

Minardi won the 1952 edition of the Giro di Lombardia.

Ivan Vutsov, Bulgarian football player, Died at 79

Ivan Vutsov was born on December 14, 1939 and died on January 18, 2019.

He was a Bulgarian footballer born in Gabrovo, Bulgaria.

He played in three matches at the 1966 FIFA World Cup and for Levski Sofia.

Vutsov was likewise a VP of the Bulgarian Football Union and administrator of the Bulgarian national group, Hajduk Split and PFC Levski Sofia where wound up celebrated for having 18 diversions in the European club rivalries amid his rule.

Eli Grba, American baseball player, Died at 84

Eli Grba was born on August 9, 1934 and died on January 14, 2019.

He was a Major League Baseball pitcher.

Amid his five-year baseball profession, Grba, an alum of Chicago's Bowen High School, pitched for the New York Yankees (1959– 1960) and Los Angeles Angels (1961– 1963); he showed up in the 1960 World Series.

The Angels drafted Grba with the primary choice in the 1960 MLB extension draft, and he began the principal diversion in club history on April 11, 1961, contributing nine innings a 7-2 triumph over the Baltimore Orioles at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.

Basset burned through two full seasons in the Angels' beginning pivot, and held the group's unsurpassed successes record (19 wins) toward the second's end season yet in addition held the group's untouched misfortunes record (22 misfortunes).

Antonín Kramerius, Czech footballer, Died at 79

Antonín Kramerius was born on July 10, 1939 and died on January 15, 2019.

Kramerius competed in the men's tournament at the 1968 Summer Olympics.

Kramerius was a player for Sparta Prague and Spartak Hradec Králové.

At club level Kramerius won two caps for the Czechoslovakia national football team.

Avraham Bendori, Israeli football player, Died at 90

Avraham Bendori was on June 21, 1928, in Tel Aviv and died on January 15, 2019.

He was an Israeli footballer.

He played for Maccabi Tel Aviv and the Israeli national team.

Later, he worked as a manager. Bendori was part of the Maccabi Michael youth team, which won back to back youth championship in the mid-1940s.

During 1946 Bendori was promoted to the senior team and played with the team until the end of the 1959–60 season, winning 6 league titles and 6 cups with the club.

When he retired, he coached several teams without much success and served as the national team's director.

He was 20 years during the Israeli War for Independence, fought in the Samson's Foxes unit, and was injured on the Egyptian front, near Iraq Suwaydan, when the jeep he was driving was bombarded.

He was hospitalized for several weeks and was released to take part in the national teams' tour of the U.S.

Avraham Bendori passed away at 90 years old.

Mel Stottlemyre, American baseball player, Died at 77

Melvin Leon "Mel" Stottlemyre Sr. was born on November 13, 1941, and died on January 13, 2019.

He was an American professional baseball pitcher and pitching coach.

Stottlemyre played for 11 seasons in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees and coached for 23 seasons.

Stottlemyre was a five-time MLB All-Star and five-time World Series champion, as a coach.

He grew up in the town of Mabton, Washington, located in the south-central part of the state. Stottlemyre lived with his wife, Jean, in Issaquah, Washington.

His 2 sons, Todd and Mel Jr., then their father by becoming major league pitchers.

His other son, Jason, died of leukemia at the age of 11.

Stottlemyre was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2000.

Stottlemyre was in remission for several years, he was an avid supporter of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

During 2011, the cancer reappeared.

He had succumbed to cancer on January 13, 2019, in 2007.

He had wrote an autobiography entitled Pride and Pinstripes, published.

Mel Stottlemyre passed away at 77 years old.

Duncan Welbourne, English footballer, Died at 78

Duncan Welbourne was born on July 28, 1940,  in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire and died on January 14, 2019.

He was an English professional football player, coach and manager.

 
Welbourne started his career as an amateur at Scunthorpe United.
 
Welbourne began his professional career at Grimsby, as a wing half.
 
During November 1963 Welbourne  transferred to Watford, for a fee of £1,300.
 
At Watford he converted to a full back, when the club started playing in a 4–4–2 formation.
 
He set what was then a Watford record of 457 competitive appearances, breaking the 35-year-old record previously held by Tommy Barnett. 

Welbourne's  280 consecutive Football League games remains a record.

Completing third in the club's inaugural Player of the Season award in 1972–73, he left Watford on a free transfer at the end of the 1973–74 season. 

Welbourne  joined Southport, where he finished his playing career. 

Welbourne  also took on a coaching role, and managed the team between September 1975 and January 1976.

Welbourne passed away at 78 years old.

Hugo Alarcón, Chilean footballer, Died at 26

Hugo Andrés Alarcón Abarzua was born on January 11,  1993 and died on January 11, 2019.

 
He was a Chilean footballer.

He served as a  player for Deportes Iberia as Striker at the moment of his death, when he turned 26.
 
He did all lower in Universidad Católica and his debut was in 2013 in a 0-0 against Palestino.
 
During July 2014 he's loan to Deportes La Pintana for a one-year loan.

Hugo Alarcón passed away at 26 years old.

Wayne Blair, New Zealand cricketer, Died at 70

Wayne Leslie Blair was born on May 11, 1948 and died on January 2019.

 
He was a New Zealand cricketer.
 
Blair played first-class cricket for Otago from 1967 to 1991.
 
He made his first-class debut for Otago in 1967–68 as an opening batsman.
 
Blair  played all that season and all the next, reaching 50 only once, when he scored 83 in the last match of the 1968–69 season.

Blair  continued  down the order in 1969 to 1970, keeping wicket in one match and winning selection in a New Zealand Under-23 team against the touring Australians, when he top-scored in the second innings with 40.

Blair went back to the opening position and produced a number of useful but not large scores up to the end of the 1973–74 season. 

At home in cricket Blair won the man of the match award when he scored 102 against Wellington in 1979 to 1980.

Blair's younger brother, Bruce, played One Day Internationals for New Zealand in the 1980s.

Michel Dejouhannet, French racing cyclist, Died at 83

Michel Dejouhannet  was born on July 3, 1935, and died on January 12, 2019.
He was a French professional road bicycle racer.
He won a stage at Tour de France, in 1959.

Béla Zsitnik, Hungarian rower, Died at 94

Béla Zsitnik was born on  December 17, 1924, in Győr and died on January 12, 2019.

He was a Hungarian rower.
He took part in the 1948 Summer Olympics, in the 1952 Summer Olympics, and in the 1960 Summer Olympics.

He is the father of Béla Zsitnik, Jr.
 During 1948 Zsitnik was a crew member of the Hungarian boat which won the bronze in the coxed pairs event. 

After four years  Zsitnik  was eliminated with the Hungarian boat in the semi-final repechage of the eight competition. 

At the 1960 Games Zsitnik was part of the Hungarian boat which was eliminated in the repechage of the coxless four event.

Béla Zsitnik passed away at 94 years old.

Bob Kuechenberg, American football player, Died at 71

Robert John Kuechenberg was born on October 14, 1947 and died on January 12, 2019.

 
He was a National Football League guard for the Miami Dolphins for fourteen seasons between 1970 and 1983, spending the 1984 season on injured reserve. 

Kuechenberg  was a pillar in a line that included Hall of Famers Jim Langer, Larry Little, and Dwight Stephenson and played in six Pro Bowls in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Kuechenberg was selected as one of the top 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame from 2002 to 2006, and one of the top 17 finalists from 2007–2009, but missed the cut every year. 

Kuechenberg  was inducted into the Miami Dolphin's Honor Roll on December 15, 1995.
 
Kuechenberg was the brother of former Chicago Bears linebacker Rudy Kuechenberg.

Bob Kuechenberg passed away at 71 years old.

Serena Dunn Rothschild, British racehorse owner, Died at 83

Serena Mary Dunn Rothschild, Lady Rothschild (née Dunn) was born on April 28, 1935 and died on January 13, 2019.

She was a British Thoroughbred racehorse owner.
Serena was the wife of Jacob Rothschild, 4th Baron Rothschild.
Rothschild married financier Jacob Rothschild on October 20, 1961, with whom she had four children.

 She was the daughter of Sir Philip Gordon Dunn, Bt., and Lady Mary Sybil St. Clair-Erskine (daughter of James St Clair-Erskine, 5th Earl of Rosslyn). 

Serena's sister is the writer Nell Dunn.
Serena's real grandfather was Sir James Dunn, Bt., a prominent Canadian financier.
Serena Dunn Rothschild's colt Pounced, trained by John Gosden and ridden by Frankie Dettori in 2009, won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California.

Phil Masinga, South African footballer, Died at 49

Philemon Raul Masinga was born on June 28, 1969 and died  on January 13, 2019.

 
He was a South African professional footballer and manager.
Masinga played as a striker from 1991 to 2002.

Masinga  was a  player in the English Premier League for Leeds United, and Italian Serie A for Salernitana and Bari. 

Masinga  also played for Jomo Cosmos, Mamelodi Sundowns with his cousin Bennett Masinga, St. Gallen and Al-Wahda.

Masinga  represented South Africa in 58 international games, scoring 18 goals.
 
Masinga  briefly went into football management with PJ Stars, in 2006.

Phil Masinga passed away at 49 years old.

John Michels, American football player, Died at 87

John Joseph Michels was born on February 15, 1931 and died on January 10, 2019.

he was an American football offensive lineman.

He  played for the University of Tennessee (1950–1952) and in the National Football League (1953).
In 1952, he was a consensus first-team All-American.

He was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996.

Michels was best known for coaching the offensive line of the Minnesota Vikings every year from 1967 to 1993 with the exception of 1984 when Michels coached the running backs.

Johnny Hetki, American baseball player, Died at 96

John Edward Hetki was born on May 12, 1922, in Leavenworth, Kansas and died on January 10, 2019.


He was a long relief pitcher in Major League Baseball.

He played for the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Browns and Pittsburgh Pirates in all or parts of eight seasons spanning 1945 to 1954.

He stood at 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m), 202 lb (92 kg), Hetki batted and threw right-handed. 

Following his baseball career, he worked for several years as a traffic foreman for Simpkins Industries in Cleveland, Ohio. 

Hetki  relocated to Parma, Ohio, after retiring.
