Henry Sy, Retailer & investor, Died at 94

Henry Tan Chi Sieng Sy Sr. was born on October 15, 1924, in Fujian, China and died on January 19, 2019.
 
He was a Chinese-Filipino business magnate and philanthropist,
 
He was known as the "father of modern Philippine retail".
 
Sy moved with his family to the Philippines at age 12. While his family came back to China, he remained behind and established ShoeMart, a little Manilla shoe store, in 1958. 
 
Throughout the decades he formed ShoeMart into SM Investments, one of the biggest aggregates in the Philippines, incorporating 77 SM shopping centers in the Philippines and China, 62 retail establishments, 56 general stores and more than 200 supermarkets. 
 
SM likewise claims Banco de Oro, the second biggest bank in the Philippines, and land property. 

For eleven straight years until his passing, Sy was named by Forbes as the most extravagant individual in the Philippines.

At the time of his death on January 19, 2019, his estimated net worth amounted to US$19 billion, making him the 53rd richest person in the world.

Muriel Pavlow, Actress, Died at 97

Muriel Lilian Pavlow was born on June 27, 1921 and died on January 19, 2019.

She was an English actress.
 
Muriel's mom was French and her dad was Russian.
 
She began to function as a kid performer with John Gielgud and the Shakespeare Memorial Theater in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Liang Jing Kui, Chinese physical chemist, Died at 87

Liang Jingkui was  born on April 28, 1931,  in Fuzhou, Fujian,and died on January 19, 2019.
He was also known as Jing-Kui Liang.
 
He was a Chinese physical chemist and professor at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

Jingkui was appointed the President of the CAS Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter from 1983 to 1987, and was elected an academician of the CAS in 1993. 

Jingkui was awarded the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize in Technological Sciences in 1999 for his contributions to crystallography, solid-state physics, and materials science.

Liang Jingkui passed away at 87 years old, in Beijing .

Nathan Glazer, American sociologist, Died at 95

Nathan Glazer was born on February 25, 1923, in New York City and died on January 19, 2019.
He was an American sociologist.


Glazer educated at the University of California, Berkeley, and for quite a few years at Harvard University. 

Glazer was a co-proofreader of the now-dead arrangement diary The Public Interest.
