Padraic Fiacc, Irish poet, Died at 94

Padraic Fiacc was born Patrick Joseph O'Connor on April 15, 1924, in Belfast and died on January 21, 2019, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

He was an Irish poet, and member of Aosdána, the exclusive Irish Arts Academy.

 

His parents were Bernard and Annie (née McGarry) O'Connor, Fiacc's father was a barman who left for the United States when Fiacc was very young.

Raghbir Singh Bhola, Indian field hockey player, Died at 91

Raghbir Singh Bhola was born on August 21, 1927, and died on January 21, 2019.

Kaye Ballard was born  Catherine Gloria Balotta on November 20, 1925, and died on January 21, 2019.

She was an American musical theatre and television actress, comedian and singer.

 

She started herself as a musical comedian in the 1940s, joining the Spike Jones touring revue of entertainers. 

She loved playing broad physical comedy as well as stand-up dialogue routines, Ballard became familiar in television and stage productions. 

Apparently,  phrase her mother had used when Kaye was a child, "Good luck with your MOUTH!", became her catchphrase in her sketches and on television. 

She made her television debut on Henry Morgan's Great Talent Hunt,a short-lived NBC program hosted by Henry Morgan which first aired January 26, 1951. 

During 1954, Kaye was the first person to record the song "Fly Me to the Moon".

Ballard died at her home in Rancho Mirage, California on January 21, 2019, at the age of 93.

 

She was in the 2012 cabaret show Doin' It for Love, which premiered in Austin, Texas, at the historic Paramount Theatre.

Marcel Azzola was born on July 10, 1927, and died on January 22, 2019.

 

He was a French accordionist of Italian descent.

Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, Musician & political activist, Died at 63

Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul was born on January 1, 1956 and died on January 22, 2019 due to a heart attack.

Ahmed was a Bangladeshi lyricist, composer and music director, active since the late 1970s.

He was a freedom fighter who joined the Bangladesh Liberation War at the age of 15.

Ahmed won a number of awards, including Ekushey Padak, National Film Awards and the President's Award.

He was born on 1 January 1956. He studied at West End High School in Azimpur, Dhaka.

Ahmed joined the Bangladesh Liberation war in 1971 when he was 15 years old.

He served in a Mukti Bahini base in Zinzira. His older brother, Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed Tutul, served in the Crack Platoon of the Mukti Bahini.

Ahmed trained in India and fought in Lalbagh Thana and New Market Thana of Dhaka.

In October, Ahmed was captured by Pakistan military and Razakars while returning to India for more training.

Ahmed was transferred to a jail in Mymensigh where he was tortured and witnessed the mass execution of 39 Mukti Bahini prisoners by the Pakistan military.

He transferred to the resident of Dana Miah which served as the local office of the East Pakistan Central Peace Committee.

Ahmed was tortured there along with other members of the Mukti Bahini. He was able to escape from the camp.
