Russell Baker, American writer, Died at 93

Russell Wayne Baker was born on August 14, 1925 and died on  January 21, 2019.

He was an American columnist, storyteller, essayist of Pulitzer Prize-winning humorous critique and self-basic exposition, and writer of Pulitzer Prize-winning life account Growing Up (1982).

Baker cook was a feature writer for The New York Times from 1962 to 1998, and facilitated the PBS show Masterpiece Theater from 1992 to 2004.

Bill Mackrides, American football player, Died at 93

William Mackrides was born on July 8, 1925 and died on January 22, 2019.

He was an American football quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League.

Mackrides helped the Eagles win the 1948 and 1949 NFL Championships.

He played school football for the University of Nevada, Reno and drove the country in going in 1946.

In his last proficient season in 1953, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and was the last Steeler to wear uniform number 13 of every a normal season diversion until punter Jeremy Kapinos wore that number in 2010.

Hugh McIlvanney was born on February 2, 1934 and died on January 24, 2019.

He was a Scottish journalist and sports writer.

McIlvanneyhad long stints with the British Sunday newspapers The Observer (30 years until 1993) and later 23 years with the Sunday Times (1993 to 2016).

In 1996, McIlvanney was awarded the OBE, was given the Lifetime Achievement Award 2004 by The Scottish Press Awards, and is the only sports writer to be voted Journalist of the Year.
